Bayonetta 2: Centaur Enemy - Counter Attack | Quick Sound Re-design SFX Re-design: Matheus Oliveira Soundtrack: ‪@PlatinumGames_j Game Developer: ‪@PlatinumGames_j I recently began my journey into the Bayonetta franchise. Until now, I had only played the Devil May Cry franchise, which I really enjoy. However, Bayonetta has earned a special place in my heart for all the incredible aspects of this game, from the charismatic characters to the frenetic gameplay. During my hours playing Bayonetta 2, I noticed that I could take some gameplay segments and bring my perspective on the sounds. In context, I want to emphasize that Bayonetta 2 was released exclusively for Nintendo Switch, which impacts the quantity and size of files that can be ported to the game. This directly impacts very large files or those requiring a lot of work. Even so, I am absolutely fanatical about the sound design of the second game and I am impressed by how they managed to create such memorable sound effects for the game. With that, the main objective of this work was to present 3 variations of the same Counter Attack against an enemy with a shield, as well as the UI that composes the counter attack. I wanted the attacks to have a bit more bass and impact, but still maintain their "anime" and "fighting game" sound identity. Also, there's one sound in particular that I love and tried to replicate in my own way: the "ghost voices" that appear during the punches. Doing this quick work was a lot of fun and a great exercise. I really love Bayonetta 2 and the work the whole team did, especially the sound team who showed dedication in every sound detail. Cyberpunk Streets: サイバーパンクストリート | Tech Demo | Sound Re-design SFX Re-design: Matheus Oliveira Tech Demo Developer: ‪‪@Sciontidesign Developer ArtStation: https://www.artstation.com/pscionti Original Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJBS-1uB4E4 Recently, I was looking for a project where I could work and further develop my skills in ambience and sound effects. That's when I found this incredible Tech Demo on ArtStation created by Pasquale Scionti, who developed streets inspired by Cyberpunk and Blade Runner. I quickly started working on a sound redesign. In the last few months, I've been in Japan, which was initially essential for me to understand how ambience works there and to use as inspiration to create my own version of what these Cyber ​​Streets would be like, based on Japan with lots of neon and the like. With that, the main objective of this sound redesign was to make it immersive, as if it were a real game build, with dynamic sounds, dialogues between NPCs, and street movements. Furthermore, as with any game, it's necessary to prioritize which audio files will be activated at a given moment during gameplay. Therefore, I used videos of "Walking in Cyberpunk 2077" as inspiration to understand what constitutes a priority in a calm moment like walking down a street. This project was a great exercise not only for training my ambience skills but also my skills in implementing sounds in games. It was fun, and I think I achieved a great result. And that's it, folks! Elden Ring - Comet Azur Sorcery | Quick Sound Re-design SFX Re-design: Matheus Oliveira Soundtrack: ‪@FromSoftwareInc Game Developer: ‪⁨@FromSoftwareInc Just like with Spider-Man Miles Morales, my specialization assignment gave me the opportunity to do a quick sound redesign of Elden Ring. For this project, the main focus was to bring a good sound effect to Comet Azur, a spell from the game, and its variations, so that it wouldn't become monotonous or sonically repetitive. In addition, I took the opportunity to enhance it with other sounds such as ambience and others. As with other projects, I did in-depth research on how I could achieve my goals, reviewing the original video several times and drawing inspiration from other projects done by other professionals as well. Spider-Man Miles Morales | Gameplay | Sound Re-designn SFX Re-design: Matheus Oliveira Soundtrack: ‪@insomniacgames @PlayStation Game Developer: ‪@insomniacgames @PlayStation After much study, I finally arrived at the task for my specialization where I have to rework sound effects for Spider-Man Miles Morales. A game that takes place between the first and its sequel, focusing on Miles Morales and presenting his experiences and first days as the second friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The main objective of this project was to get as close as possible to the final version of the game, but in my own way. Therefore, unlike the game, I use slightly stronger transients at certain moments and try to bring a different perspective to what the sounds of the powers would be. Before actually getting down to work, I did a lot of research and reviewed several videos to understand how the webs were made and how I could get close to a satisfactory result. In addition, reviewing the original gameplay helped me understand what I have to prioritize at certain moments in a game, things like: "Oh, Am I have to focus on UI sounds? focus on enemy sounds? focus on alert sounds?" and so on. Finally, this project took me quite a while before I could look at it and say, "It's great so far, I don't need to delve any deeper" (especially since it would never get finished if I didn't stop working on it, hahaha). Yakuza Like A Dragon: Yu Namba Kiwami | Quick Sound Re-design SFX Re-design: Matheus Oliveira Voices: @Ryugagotoku_official⁩ Soundtrack: @Ryugagotoku_official Game Developer: @Ryugagotoku_official In September/October of this year, I had the great opportunity to visit Japan ⛩ for the first time. After going to the Tokyo Game Show and other places, I took advantage of my vacation to visit Yokohama, the home of Kasuga Ichiban and friends from Yakuza Like A Dragon (龍が如く7), a game by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios. It was a lot of fun and I felt immersed as if I were inside the game. Now, missing Japan and having these incredible memories, I was inspired to do a quick sound re-design of this game, which has become one of my favorites since I played it. The main objective of this sound design is to give a little more depth to the characters' special attacks, making them more detailed and full, but maintaining the main aspects and essence of a Japanese fighting game. Later on, the company released an early gameplay footage to tell a little more about the universe, objectives and the creation process of the game, introducing the developers and others. Here, I gathered all the scenes shown in this mini documentary and redid the sound design. 👺⛩️ These early footage scenes came out in a behind the scenes about the game in 2024, so I thought: why not? For this project, I tried to explore the playful and supernatural a lot, so I used several tools to get a cool result. My favorite was using a blender and a brick-cutting machine for this haha. I wanted the attacks to have a lot of impact, so I wanted to make the bass a little more present. And much more! It was a great exercise and super fun, besides being challenging, but I confess that I loved the final result! Just like the previous character announcements, Ubisoft released an Anime-style Short to tell a little about the story of the new agent, titled "The Story of Azami" set in Japan. I have to say, I played Rainbow Six Siege a few times last years, but it's not among my favorite games. Despite this, I'm always very impressed with the great animations they release when they announce their new characters, something very similar to what Blizzard and Riot do when they announce their new heroes. The collaboration came as a way to celebrate the release of the film SPYxFAMILY: Code White. In addition to the characters' participation in the game, WIT Studio released an Anime-style trailer to announce the collaboration between the companies. When I saw the trailer for the first time, I was immediately interested as I really like both worlds. With that, I decided to redesign the sound of the trailer from my perspective. Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 - Opening (Sound Re-design) SFX Re-design: Matheus Oliveira Soundtrack: Cover Unknown Animation: Spike Chunsoft Game Developer: Spike Chunsoft Publisher: Bandai Namco Entertainment On December 7, 2023, the studio Spike Chunsoft with its publisher Bandai Namco presented for the first time (since the announcement teaser) the trailer gameplay of its new game, Dragon Ball Z Sparking Zero ⏯​​​​​​​ during The Game Awards 2023. The game takes the loved gameplay of Budokai Tenkaichi series and raises it to whole new levels. Just like the TV series, since I was a child I've been a huge fan of the Budokai Tenkaichi series, especially the third game. This has always been my favorite Dragon Ball game franchise, so when I saw the trailer for the first time I really got goosebumps and a very strong feeling of nostalgia. Because of this, I decided to make my own version of the classic and legendary opening of the game Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (2007).
